Re-Granting
Resourcing the movement for sex workers' rights.
Sex workers are undisputedly one of the most marginalized and oppressed populations, yet funding for sex workers' rights initiatives remains unacceptably low at less than 1% of global foundation funding for human rights. Resources and policies intended to combat sex trafficking have measurably decreased the safety and agency of sex workers, some of whom are themselves survivors of exploitation. New Moon strives to address the lack of support for sex worker- and survivor-led initiatives through re-granting.
Our Re-Granting Strategy
Our re-granting strategy is to investigate the field through microgrants and identify leaders and projects poised for impact and deeper investment. As an intermediary fund, New Moon infuses funding into to the field through our organization, but we also engage funders to make direct investments into values-aligned organizations doing exceptional work in their communities.
Types of Funding
MICROGRANTS
Each month New Moon distributes five $1,000 microgrants to 501c3 or fiscally sponsored groups whose work advances the rights and welfare of people in the sex trade. Funding allocations are decided by New Moon’s microgrant advisors, who review applications each month. Groups that are interested in microgrants can apply here.
SEED FUNDING
In 2025 New Moon has launched a Seed Funding program whereby 15 existing grantees have been selected to receive $1,000 per month for one year. To learn more about our Seed Funding initiative, check out our blog post announcing our partnership with ViiV Healthcare.
SPONSORSHIPS
New Moon welcomes proposals for sponsorship from groups whose work advances the rights and welfare of people in the sex trade. Sponsorships are traditionally reserved for groups who have existing relationships with New Moon. Our sponsorships typically range from $1,000-$5,000.
DONATIONS
New Moon distributes additional donations on a case-by-case basis. Donations have been deployed to respond to rapidly emerging needs, honor specific occasions, and help develop infrastructure for strategic programs. New Moon is not accepting unsolicited requests for donations at this time.
